Storage is a mainstay of any cloud solution, and where most will charge transfer fees, we don't. What we do offer is high performance, flexible capacity storage at a fair price.
GEN have been providing cloud storage solutions since 1991 and we're very good at it, whatever you need in terms of storage, we have a solution that will fit.
FTP has been around since the 1970s and is still used today for transferring files between systems. Because of its extended support it is a good choice for receiving and sending files, and its used extensively for this purpose with many customers having a separate FTP service for each client, allowing them secure access to their data, and providing a transfer area. FTP is essentially a set of directories and files on a remote server. In many operating systems you can 'mount' a FTP server as a drive and use it like a local drive. FTP is supported natively in most operating systems, and there is an extensive collection of clients that are free to use.
FTP is not very secure, and since it ebbs back to the 70's that understandable, things were different then. Today we need to have some security, and for this we have SFTP (Secure FTP) and FTPS (FTP Secure). Both these protocols provide security in the way of an encrypted connection, but how they do it is different. For most use cases SFTP is recommended, but we support both. We can, if required further enhance security with our own VPN solutions providing double encryption, or encrypting an unencrypted FTP connection.
We fully support Synology's HyperBackup and ABB as a storage volume as well as CloudSync and RSync. This provides native synology backup solutions from the familiar Synology control panel and applications.
WebDAV is an extention to the HTTP protocol that allows browser based modification to files, but you'll need a client to make it work properly. Clients are freely available for Windows and MacOS and there are even options available for mobile devices. Linux supports WebDAV natively.
FileStation is a browser based file manager that allows you to create, upload, download, and manage files or folders in your storage space.
We do support RSYNC, a file synchronisation tool available in linux that allows easy file transfers between systems. RSYNC is a great option for backing up servers where you want to mirror the contents of directories/files on a remote storage. RSYNC speeds this up by performing a 'compare' and transfers only the changes. This has its drawbacks as well, but its an option we support.
We also support more exotic storage solutions like NFS, SMB, AFTP, CIFS, iSCSI, and S3, but these are not available in the standard packages, but are instead built to order as required. Some of these require a GEN VPN to access them since the storage protocol itself is not secure enough to be directly accessible over the internet.
One of the issues with storing terabytes of data in the cloud, is the time it takes to do a full restore, which can be many hours if not days (depending on bandwidth).
Unlike almost every other storage provider, GEN offers RapidRecovery (RR) which, in the event of a disaster will restore your data to a cloud version, to a bare metal unit, or we will transfer your data to a portable hard drive and motorbike courier that to you. This provides the quickest possible return to service from any disaster. RapidRecovery is not a one size fits all and we can customise this to your specific environment to minimise the time to recover.
Do you need to sync or backup files from your systems but need help doing it? or do you want a custom solution for two, three or more way synchronisation? At GEN we can provide that solution, written and supported by our team of specialists.
Our services run at 99.9% uptime, and our support TTF is around 4 hours, but we offer a wide range of service levels from 24 hours to 2 hours TTF 24/7. At GEN we always offer user support even without a service level agreement.
The following are our fixed plans, which you can order directly below or contact us for a quote specifically for your needs. You can of course upgrade at anytime during the service.
